Purpose:

In order that adequate provisions may be made for the preparation of a comprehensive city plan for the guidance, direction and control of the growth and development of the city, a planning commission was created under authority of the Illinois Municapal Code and was approved May 29, 1961.

Membership: Six

Appointed by the Mayor. Four must reside within the city and two shall reside within 1 1/2 miles of the corporate limits.

Mayor is ex officio member without the power to vote.
