City of Oregon Water & Sewer Update
June 17, 2006
Construction of the East Oregon water and sewer line extensions is in full swing and should be completed by June 21st. The boring under the highway is completed and rerouting of the waterline under existing lines has been accomplished. It should be easy going form here on to completion.
Engineering for the Wastewater Plant upgrade is nearly complete and we expect to make a complete presentation to the City Council for approval within the next few weeks. This comprehensive project will be completed in 2008 and will provide the Citizens of Oregon with the finest facility modern technology can provide. The major concern with wastewater systems is the disposal of solids, and with this system, sludge is all but eliminated and the days of land application will be a thing of the past. The IEPA Revolving Loan Program will provide financing for this project, and all payments will come from existing Capital Improvement Funds without an increase in rates or taxes.
The engineering plan for possible extension of a forced sewer line from Etnyre and Co. has been completed and there are several options to consider. The cost of the project is around $1,000,000, which could be paid for by the State of Illinois. The City of Oregon will be providing disposal of trucked in Industrial waste from Etnyre, so there is no urgency for this project.
Projects that will require attention is the sewer line extension on Mix Street for the Sobvoda Woods Addition, water and sewer lines to the Hospice Hospital South of Oregon, service to the planned Senior Citizens Facility on 10th Street, and plans for water and sewer line extensions during the State of Illinois Route 2 North rebuilding project.
