City of Oregon Dog Park November 26, 2007

The City of Oregon has a leash free dog park available for exercising dogs in an enclosed safe environment.  The three and a half acre fenced area is on City Wastewater property and is adjacent to Carnation Park.  The area can be entered from Second Street or from Carnation Park.  Dogs must be leashed when entering the park and there is a gated area to release your dog before entering the leash free area.  Basic rules are posted, but you must register and receive a printed list of rules at the Oregon City Hall.  You will receive a printed pass for the City provided free facility.

There are dog waste disposal cans located in each corner of the park and dog owners are expected to bring necessary plastic bags to pick-up after their dogs.  Used grocery bags work very well.  It is important that dog waste should not become a problem or it could jeopardize the use of the property as a dog park.

A small dog area is provided so that large dogs will not intimidate small dogs, and a drinking water hydrant is also provided.  Benches and other conveniences will be added as the dog park develops, but for now the area is for dog comfort, which includes two fireplugs at the far end of the dog park.

All dogs should be unleashed in the main play area, and dogs should not have chain choke or pinch collars.  No small children or puppies are allowed.  Do not leave your dog unsupervised and if you are confronted with a problem, please leave the park and return to play another day.

Dog parks have proven very popular in other Cities, with few problems and it is very important that your dog is sociable and under your control.  It is important that all users understand that you are a guest of the City of Oregon when using this park and if problems should develop, the City reserves the right to close the park at anytime.
