2011 Water and Wastewater Projects

The wastewater plant upgrade will be completed in early May of 2011.  Extensive training on the bio-solids functions will be completed and the plant is planned to be in full operation by mid summer.

Planning for construction and financing of ultra-violet decontamination equipment for the wastewater plant will be completed.  This will eliminate the chlorination of effluent discharges into the Rock River.

Planning for construction and financing of sludge bed enclosures and a screw press sludge dewatering system will be completed.

Planning and financing of well house chemical room additions and rehabilitation of existing buildings will be completed.  Chemicals must be isolated and safety features installed to meet OSHA requirements.   Well house #2 at City Hall requires replacement and new scales and SCADA monitoring system will installed at this time.

The radio-read water meter replacement will continue for the remaining 800 meters.  20% of un-metered water loss is due to worn out meters and is a substantial revenue loss to the City Water Department.

The City of Oregon water and wastewater department will complete a maintenance plan and replacement schedule of all department facilities   When the completion of the wastewater upgrade and the loan repayment is established, a Capitol Improvement plan will be completed.

In the next 5 to 10 years, lift station pumps will require replacement, 25 fire hydrants require replacement, and 35 manholes require rebuilding.

A joint plan between the City Water and Wastewater Department and the City of Oregon for engineering and funding of the East Oregon storm water control will be completed.  Anticipated EPA requirements for monitoring of storm water discharges into the Rock River will require a new and additional funding source.
