Water and Wastewater Plans for 2008

  • Secure permit from the IEPA for the waterline on Illinois Street West of Oregon under Illinois Route 2.

  • Provide wastewater service to the planned Hospice Facility South of Oregon.

  • Develop a plan for water-main extensions under the BNSF Railroad, looping in the area South of Oregon along Route 2.

  • Provide water and wastewater to the planned Senior Center on South Tenth Street.

  • Provide water and wastewater to the tentative plan for the new Sinnissippi Center Facility off Pines Road.

  • Complete a plan to extend water and wastewater service North of Oregon along Route 2 when the Illinois Department of Transportation rebuilds Route 2 from Oregon to Byron Illinois.  Water mains along Fair Street will also be improved along with this project.

  • Develop a plan for water and wastewater extensions along River Road to possible development North of Mix Lane.

  • Continue the installation of radio read water meters.  This will be a continuing process that could take three years to complete.

  • Replace a shut-off valve on Liberty Hill at the reservoir.  This will require shutting off a third of Oregon’s service to make the necessary repair.

  • The City has hope that requirements will be met with the IEPA and a low interest loan from the IEPA revolving loan fund, and the construction can begin on the planned wastewater upgrade.

  • Smoke testing will continue into the residential areas of the City, in an attempt to locate illegal storm water discharges into the sanitary sewer.

  • Make the necessary improvements in our wastewater plant to eliminate all combined sewer discharges into the Rock River.

  • Complete water and wastewater rate study to establish the actual cost of department operations.

  • Agree to terms for the management of the City of Oregon water and wastewater department.  Oregon will be making decisions about future operations in November of 2008, which might require a new direction.
